Colin Graves has spoken to sacked player … Kevin Pietersen not in our plans – selector James Whittaker

INCOMING England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves has spoken to batsman Kevin Pietersen about a return to the England side. Pietersen wants a meeting when he completes World Cup radio duties, reports BBC Sport’s Pat Murphy.

It comes a day after selector James Whitaker said the 34-year-old was “not part” of the team’s plans.
Pietersen was sacked in February 2014 in the fallout of the 5-0 Ashes whitewash by Australia.
Graves, who takes over as ECB chairman on May 15, has not yet agreed to the meeting and says he will try to accommodate Pietersen but told the BBC he has made no promises to him.
However, he did vow it will be a different ECB under his leadership
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called England’s current situation a “soap opera”, and says the team need to beat West Indies 3-0 to stop talk of a Pietersen comeback.
“All Colin Graves said is he is going to meet Kevin Pietersen. He will have a chat and is not promising anything,” Vaughan said on Test Match Special.
“It is clear that for Kevin to have any hope of playing for England, and it is only a small hope, he has got to play county cricket and we will see what happens.
“The game needs a change; it needs someone to come in and say the past is the past and to start afresh. Graves is clearly going to do that – obviously it’s going to ruffle a few feathers but maybe that’s what they need.
“Change is sometimes difficult for people but English cricket needs it. You have to look at the way England have played for a period which has not been great. Just maybe this is a fantastic motivational tool.
“If the team don’t want Pietersen in the side then go to the West Indies and win 3-0. Play better, score more runs and win more games and Pietersen will never play again.” (BBC Sport)
