TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Cassie Monifa, accused of stealing money from her elderly lover, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and denied the charge that between March 11 and 12, in Georgetown, she stole US$100,000 from Lester Cummings.The court heard that the young woman and Cummings had been out partying on the night of March 11, when it is alleged that the man either fell asleep or was distracted when she stole the said money.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru did not object to bail, and Monifa was placed on $50,000 bail. She will make her second court appearance before Magistrate Annett Singh on March 23.
