RESIDENTS of Ruimveldt were on Thursday and Friday affected by an overflowing sluice, which resulted from the current spring tide which is hitting the shores of Guyana. The overflowing yesterday came as an inconvenience for the residents of the area, since the overflowing water entered the yards and to some extent the houses of the persons who live nearby.

The Guyana Chronicle managed to catch up with a resident from the area who requested anonymity. He disclosed that this isn’t the first time that there has been an overflow, in fact, he noted that “every time we got high tide the water does flow over and flood the neighbourhood.”

The resident added that this has been going on for years now because at the side of the sluice, one of its support mechanisms has been worn out, causing the water to seep through that area and further lead into the low-lying area.

Some residents exclaimed that the water not only floods their houses, but it also breeds insects which affect not only adults, but also the children who reside in the area.
Other residents expressed their feeling of disgust, as they pleaded with the Guyana Chronicle to relay their messages to the relevant authorities, so that they can be assisted in building the area where the water seeps through.
