Day/night affair at stadium today

THE CHRISTOPHER Barnwell-led Guyana Jaguars NAGICO Super50 team will have their second and probably final practice game from 14:00hrs today at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, when they go up against Vishaul Singh’s XI in the day/night affair.

In the first game that was played last Wednesday at the Everest Cricket Club ground, the Jaguars, on the back of solid performances from Royston Crandon, Barnwell, Steven Jacobs and Devendra Bishoo, came away with a 106-run victory.
Even though they played on opposite sides, Singh and Paul Wintz, who are both members of the 14-man squad named to compete in the West Indies Cricket Board/NAGICO Super50 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago next week, also had creditable performances.
Wintz took 3 for 59 when Barnwell’s side made 281, with Crandon hitting a topscore of 75, Barnwell 54 and Jacobs a pugnacious 24-ball 44 in the depth of the Jaguars’ innings, adding 46 for the eighth wicket from 3.5 overs with Veerasammy Permaul, whose contribution was 5.
However, both head coach Esaun Crandon and his assistant Rayon Griffith will have to examine carefully the running between the wickets by their batsmen and, most importantly, the scoring and loss of wickets in the first 10 overs, as this was a sore point in the first match.
Eight teams will battle for supremacy out of two groups in the NAGICO Super50, with the Jaguars being placed in Group ‘A’ alongside defending champions Barbados Pride, Windward Islands Volcanoes and CCC, all of whom they will meet in the preliminary round when the action bowls off, with the Volcanoes being their first at the picturesque Queen’s Park Oval on January 15.
The teams are: Guyana Jaguars – Trevon Griffith, Rajendra Chandrika, Christopher Barnwell (captain), Jonathan Foo, Steven Jacobs, Royston Crandon, Raymond Reifer, Anthony Bramble, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Paul Wintz, Kemol Savory and Ronsford Beaton.
Vishaul Singh’s XI – Vishaul Singh (captain), Kandasammy Surujnarine, Narsingh Deonarine, Ricardo Adams, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Robin Bacchus, Jason Sinclair, Amir Khan, Kevon Boodie, Keon Joseph, Raun Johnson, Anthony Adams and Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai.
