A-33-YEAR-OLD old man who confessed that he chopped his former stepdaughter, was yesterday fined $70,000, by Magistrate Annette Singh. Fain Piggott admitted to the charge which states that he on December 22, at Craig Public Road, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Jewel Pisano.
Despite his confession to the crime, he told the court he did not chop her; rather he threw a drinking glass at her which broke on her veranda and cut her.
Piggott claimed he threw the glass in retaliation after she threw the same glass at his back. He added he was never in possession of the cutlass, but it was the victim’s mother that was armed with a cutlass and chased him down the road.
Despite the magistrate assertion that this charge carries a penalty of up to three years, she just fined the defendant $70,000.
