Understanding… from a Teen's Point of View

* Giving: This is the reason for this season

Hello there! How are you? Are you excited for Christmas Day? I know I am, but you do remember me saying that we should all give back a little bit to the people who need it more. Well, this week I am going to be talking about my little experiences with giving back to the people around me. A few days ago, my class and I conducted a ‘drive’ amongst ourselves to carry to the Red Cross Convalescent Home. Amongst ourselves and a few other supportive teachers, we were able to collect a number of items such as baby care products, food stuff, toys, etc. the organisation welcome any of these contributions. This has become an annual practice for us, and this year it was spearheaded by our current class teacher: Mr. E. Vankennie.
On the morning before ‘having fun’ at our school’s party, we sought to go to the home, deliver the items and spend some time with the children.
At the home, we saw a multitude of children ranging from babies to ten year olds- each with varying ethnicity and varying conditions. It was heart wrenching to see these children and think that they were abandoned and neglected, almost everything at this place would make you sympathize with these unfortunate children. The only bright sides to this were that they were now at a safe place where they would be cared for and also, not much of the children we saw last year was here again- they were adopted into homes and now have new loving families. The children were hesitant to approach and stay with us at first but after a while they became attached to us and at our departing time, they were all in tears.
That was just one experience which has become a tradition now. Other little experiences I have with giving back would be when my mother and I go to various orphanages on special occasions or even just give at random times and last year after we finished our shopping for goodies we shared some from it to a less fortunate family which we will continue. So again, I am imploring you all to at least give a little bit even from what you have back to someone around you in this season of giving.
Quote for the week: (by Mother Teresa)
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
Good bye! Do enjoy your Christmas and I will see you all again here at your favourite and best neswpaper!
