‘Fowl fight’ murder accused jailed for 66 yrs

THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Mark Assing, called ‘Jessie’, was yesterday sentenced to 66 years’ imprisonment by Justice Navindra Singh following his being found guilty by a mixed jury of shooting to death Abiola Eadie, called ‘Abbie’, on June 19th, 2012 after a heated argument in which Assing had alleged that guys had used his fowl to fight and the fowl became blind as a consequence.

During that argument, the accused Assing had pulled out a gun and had pointed it at one Martin, son of the deceased Abiola Eadie. Wrapped in a towel, Abiola was standing in front of her son Martin when the accused allegedly fired the fatal shot that hit her in the mouth.

Represented by well-known Attorney-at-law Mr. Peter Hugh, the accused Assing had pleaded not guilty as charged.

Senior State Counsel, Mrs. Judith Gildharie Mursalin conducted the case for the prosecution.
