… receive blessings and support from DCB
THE MAJOR cricket clubs on the East Coast of Demerara have banded themselves together to play competitive cricket in the absence of a legitimate association after no elections were held for almost four years. The Committee has already begun a 40-over competition that will be contested among 12 clubs, with the winning team pocketing $200 000 and the runners-up half that amount. Nauth and Sons Motor Spares will donate trophies along with other individual prizes for the winners, runners-up and man-of-the-match of each game,
The former East Coast Cricket Board executives refused to recognise the DCB and its parent body the Guyana Cricket Board, hence they have refused to participate in competitions organised by the DCB, resulting in many players being disenchanted.
Some of the clubs on the East Coast, piloted by Enmore, rescued the young players by organising practice sessions and selecting teams to participate in competitions of the DCB, and as a result, players, such as Brian Sattaur, were able to represent their country.
The clubs on the East Coast then wrote the DCB president Rajendra Singh requesting help and the intervention of the DCB, complaining in their letter about no elections being held, members being sidelined from participating in authorised cricket and denying the rights of members of the ECCB, among others.
Singh pledged his support to the committee and stated “The DCB is here to promote cricket and anyone who shares that interest would be supported.”
The newly formed Committee on the ECD is chaired by Shameer Shahib and it consists of Anil Persaud, Jitlall Jawahirlall, Quancy Cummings, Richard Chatura, Atamdeo Persaud and others.
