Botofago and Eagles United begin campaign on winning note

DESPITE losing their UDFA Under-20 Most Valuable Player striker Jamal Haynes shortly after the second half began, the young Botofago side registered a 2-1 win over Vasco while Eagles United beat Net Rockers 1-0, to start their campaign as the Upper Demerara Football Association/Guyana Football Federation National Premier League Play-offs got started at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden on Wednesday night.As early as the first minute Botofago signalled their intentions early by scoring off the boot of Tevin Thompson and the score was increased in the 13th minute through Donavan Francis.
However, Vasco were able to reduce that lead by Botofago when Jermain Preston netted three minutes later and at halftime the scores remained 2-1 for Botofago.
After play resumed in the second half Botofago lost the services of Haynes, who was the MVP for the UDFA/Net Rockers Under-20 tournament recently, after he was booked for the second time in the 57th minute.
In the second game of the night Eagles United edged Net Rockers 1-0 with the lone goal coming from the boot of Kendolph Lewis in the 33rd minute.
The competition continues tonight with another double-header at the MSC ground as Vasco take on Net-Rockers at 18.00hrs while in the second game Eagles United do battle with Botofago.
The winner of the tournament will represent the association in a national play-off, to advance four teams into the 2014/2015 Guyana Football Federation National Premier League.
