Religious Service and Legends Dinner to kick off month-long celebration

THE BERBICE Cricket Board’s (BCB) Diamond Jubilee Celebration would get under way this Sunday August 31, with a religious service to be held at 07:30hrs the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, under the guidance of Father Ramesh Vanan, with special prayers being offered for Berbice cricket, its players and administrators.

The highlight of the launching would be the hosting of a special legends dinner and presentation ceremony scheduled for 19.00hrs at the St Francis Training Centre located in Port Mourant, where President Donald Ramoutar has been invited to deliver the feature address.
Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony has also been invited to the event and is to be a part of the programme along with Regional Chairmen B. Bisnauth and P. Armogan of Region 5 and 6 respectively.
Chairman of the BCB Diamond Jubilee Committee Hilbert Foster will give a preview of the month-long celebrations and also the developments of the BCB over the past 75 years.
During the function, the BCB would be honouring Sam Suchit, Oscar Ramjeet, Bobby Deonarine and former West Indies ODI player Milton Pydanna for their outstanding contributions to the game in the Ancient County.
The BCB would also be honouring all of its 17 Test cricketers with special gifts while two cricket books written by former BCB secretary Mortimer George would also be launched as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration.
Every guest attending the ceremony would receive Diamond Jubilee souvenirs and Foster is once again urging all Berbice Test cricketers, former national senior players and outstanding administrators to make a special effort to attend this ceremony.
