FORMER national Under-19 leg-spinner Arjune Nandu, who is presently holidaying in Guyana from Canada, saw it fit to give back to the Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) while paying a visit there recently.

The right handed Nandu, who played four first class matches for Guyana before migrating to Canada, donated four cricket bats to the team, while he also held several coaching sessions with the club, on the invitation of its president Vickram Seubarran.
According to Seubarran, he saw it fit to ask Nandu to take some time from his vacation to impart his knowledge with the young spinners of the club, namely Vivekanand Jagjit, Daniel Samaroo, Haresh Jaipaul, Sudesh Ghamandi, Samuel Kesnasammy, Nagma Budhoo and Ezekiel Kempadoo, to which Nandu readily agreed.
“It was a pleasure to see Nandu coming into our nets and participating, both verbally and physically with the players, who at the completion of the sessions were eager to pick his thoughts and get a few ideas from him, while it was surprising when he offered us the four bats,” said Seubarran.
Speaking with Nandu in an invited comment, he said he felt pleased to be giving back to the club at which he honed his skills before becoming a national Under-19 and later senior player, even as he showered praise on Seubarran for the work that is presently ongoing.
“The net session went pretty well. What I find at Port Mourant and even around Guyana, we have lots and lots of talented kids who just need someone to work with them and guide them to go and keep going for the future,” said Arjune.
He added, “What PMCC and other cricket clubs are doing in Guyana is great and I wish to commend the new management at PMCC for the hard work they have put in recently, not only to ensure the young guys are playing cricket, but even now during the summer time, have them actively involved with in-house practice matches.”
An emotional Nandu looked on excitingly from the pavilion as his two sons participated in the two-day practice game that was played between PMCC Under-19 team, with the sides being led by Daniel Samaroo and Joshua Ramsammy, respectively.
