A RECENT surprise search carried out by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ranks and guards of the New Amsterdam Prison unearthed seventy grammes of cannabis sativa, numerous makeshift offensive weapons, and cell phones, ‘juckers’(improvised weapons) and ziplock bags, amongst other prohibited items.

In recent times, similar searches had unearthed knives, cutlasses, and even acid concealed by inmates of the correctional facility situated at Penitentiary Walk in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
