IMRAN KHAN took the first prize with a net 67 in last Saturday’s Scotiabank-sponsored Golf Tournament which took place at the Lusignan Golf Course. The bank – a partner of 17 years with the Club – handed over a generous contribution of $325 000 to the top three golfers to donate to charities of their choice. The tournament attracted 55 golfers and Khan came out on top, winning the tournament twice before, having done so in 1999 and 2008, making him the keeper of the lien trophy.
Second place went to Haresh Tiwari who edged out Roy Cummings for that position, after having a better last-nine holes with a net 68, while fourth place was occupied by Dr Philbert London who ended the day on net 69.
Khan also took the Best Gross prize for his superb 76, with debutant Andrew Budhan taking the Closest to the Pin award, LGC president David Mohammed the Longest Putt and Joaan Deo the Best Female Player award.
Mohammed later expressed his gratitude to the sponsor for such a wonderful tournament and for the long-term commitment to the club.
“Giving back to the less fortunate is always a good gesture and doing so through the sport is even better and we hope to see more of this in the future not only in golf but sports in general,” said Mohammed, who also thanked the senior officials from the Bank for their presence at the tournament.
Natasha Hamilton, Senior Manager for Commercial Banking, said she is very pleased with the turnout and support for the tournament, adding the Marketing Manager Jennifer Cipriani and herself will be ready to take part in the next tournament.
The Club will have a Club tournament with prizes up for grabs this weekend, while the Wartsila-sponsored tournament will be contested the following weekend.
