THE Johanna Cecilia Learning Resource Centre on the Essequibo Coast in Region 2 has graduated another batch of women in the field of cooking (pastry making).Teacher and coordinator of the centre, Ms. Parbittie Singh, said the batch of ten women were taught how to make various Indian sweetmeats, such as gulaab jamoon, mettai, roti, barfi, fudge, doori, faluda; and such snacks as rekouch, kachowri, bigani, samosa, vegenuggets, and vege rolls.

Ms. Singh said that at the end of the course, which lasted some twelve weeks, participants were required to make the various sweet meats and snacks they were taught to make, and put what they make on display to be sampled by the teacher.

Before presenting certificates to the graduands, Ms Singh congratulated them for preparing the various Indian sweetmeats and snacks with the new skills they have learnt during the course. She said every student’s performance was excellent, and she encouraged them to use their new cooking skills to create employment for themselves and family members, so as to generate more income.

After their certification, the graduands expressed thankfulness and appreciation to ‘Teacher Parbittie’ for conducting the course, and for having great patience with them.

Mr. Doodnauth Singh, Chairman of the Johanna Cecilia Community Development Group which managed the Learning Resource Centre, thanked the participants for attending the course. He also thanked those who had travelled from as far as Coffee Grove to attend classes, and he urged them to share their knowledge and skills with others and to be good ambassadors of the centre.

Another class on pastry-making began at the learning centre on March 29.
