BUSINESSWOMAN Cheryl Benjamin of Charity Extension Housing Scheme on Essequibo Coast was about to retire to bed Sunday night after a hard day’s work but started screaming when she discovered a man hiding under her bed.According to her, she arrived home with her daughter and daughter-in-law about 23:30 hours after closing her business at Charity. She took a bath and had a conversation with her daughter before retiring.
However, the woman, who smokes, said she lit a cigarette while sitting on her bed and began to smoke. Needing the ash tray that was left underneath, she pushed her hand to get it but discovered it was not there.
She said, when she bent down and peeped to see where it was she saw two eyes staring at her.
Benjamin said she quickly recognised that it was a man with his face partly covered by a piece of cloth and began to scream for her daughter, who dashed out on to the street and called the Police by cell phone. But they responded some thirty minutes later.
She said the intruder broke all the glass panes on the louvre windows and escaped with her purse containing her identification (ID) card, passport and transport for her land.
The investigations are continuing while the burglar is still at large.
