SOL GUYANA, which owns the Shell fuel stations, hosted an appreciation function at the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown last Saturday, where officials and dealers spoke of the contributions the company has made towards the development of this country.General Manager of Sol Guyana, Mr. Orlando Boxill disclosed several activities planned for 2014 and reflected on the 2013 performances.
He said: “We are happy to communicate that, since our last appreciation event, quite a bit has transpired, consistent with our company’s strategic intent of establishing a presence in every country in the Caribbean basin.
Boxill went on to say: “During 2013, we did not undertake any conspicuous projects. It was a year of consolidation, centred on maintenance, reliability and reinforcing compliance with environmental standards.”
He said it should be noted that, in SOL’s support towards the Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society, the quest to protect and educate the public, the company repainted the marine turtle monument that is located opposite the Umana Yana in Kingston, in the city, too.
The projects
The Ministry of Education’s ‘Give a Book’ and ‘Drop everything and read’ were supported by the company, yet again, with the donation of books to St Ann’s Primary School and those were among the projects that secured SOL support in 2013.
Boxill said, presently, the company has an ongoing promotion ‘The Race Is On To Win F1 Tickets’, whereby two lucky persons will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to win an all-expense paid trip to the 2014 Formula One Shell Belgian Grand Prix.
In attendance on the occasion, as well, was Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, who acknowledged that SOL has placed Guyana in the forefront of the petroleum industry and commended what the company has done, thus far, while wishing it much success.
The SOL Group, with its Head Office in Barbados, supplies fuels, lubricants, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) through an extensive network of service stations, to customers who are involved in shipping, luxury boating, aviation, mining, trucking and fleet operations.
SOL Guyana has pledged to continue upholding its corporate responsibilities by virtue of unswerving commitment in supporting several activities and projects that positively impact the lives of many Guyanese.
