A FATHER of two, whose only name was given as Vicky, took his own life by hanging himself in his room on Friday evening, even as his two sons, aged eight and nine, looked on.

Reputedly in his early 30s, the man, who is also known in the Mon Repos community as “Camera Fowl”, reportedly committed the act after finding his wife in the company of another male companion in another village.

The man had allegedly been receiving reports of his wife’s unfaithfulness from several persons over several years, and he reportedly obtained first-hand knowledge yesterday in Good Hope. An argument subsequently ensued at his home, and he promised the woman that he would take his own life, but that had apparently not fazed her. They had been together for almost 10 years, and she had mothered his two children.

Speaking with this publication yesterday afternoon at their home, the dead man’s aunt explained that she was at home next door when one of the children called her to say “come see what happen to daddy”.
The woman said she enquired what the problem was, and the children informed her that the man had hanged himself; she said she asked if he were dead or alive, and when she rushed upstairs, the man was motionless over the bed in his room.

The Guyana Chronicle visited the home yesterday to find the man’s aunt sitting with his two children under a tent erected to hold a wake. Persons in the area, expressing shock and grief at the man’s passing, declared that he had worked very hard to maintain his two children, and would even ensure that his wife receive all the support she needed, financially and otherwise.
