Collision between minibuses leads to wounding, assault charges

BUS driver Trevlon Saul, of Lot 10 El Dorado Village, West Coast Berbice, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman, yesterday, for allegedly, wounding a construction worker.The defendant pleaded guilty, with explanation, to the charge which said, on Saturday, January 4, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Hemchand Hemchal.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, indicated that a broken bottle was used to wound Hemchal.
Saul told the court that his minibus had run out of gasolene along Sheriff Street and another bus came from behind and hit the right side of his.
He said an argument developed between him and four men who disembarked the other bus, armed with wood and hit him.
Saul said, luckily, a taxi driver came to his rescue.
Based on what he explained, Magistrate Latchman entered a not guilty plea for the defendant.
Meanwhile, 35-year-old Hemchal (no address given) and Moses Prince, 32, of Lot 5 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to separate charges that said, on the same day, in Sheriff Street, they unlawfully assaulted Saul.
Prince and Hemchal were granted $30,000 bail each and they are to be back in Court on January 15.
