Court told… : Drug defendant found with marijuana, sales cash

SHAWN McKay (no address given) was refused bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya-Sewnarine- Beharry on a drug trafficking charge. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on December 6, in Albouystown, he was in possession of 289 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose.
Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the court, that day, around 18:30 hrs, ranks acting on information went to the defendant’s home and conducted a search.
Two large, transparent bags, containing weed, seeds and stems suspected to be from the prohibited plant, were found concealed in a television stand, the prosecutor said, adding that the defendant, when cautioned, admitted possession and a further search, on his person, yielded G$390,000 and US$75, believed to be the proceeds of sales.
The prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds that no special reason was advanced for the defendant to be granted pre-trial liberty.
He was, therefore, remanded to prison until January 9, 2014.
