Two more refused bail on robbery, burglary charges

TWO more men were refused bail, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on several charges of robbery under arms and break and enter. Nicholas Layne, 19, of Lot 59 and Travis Payne, 21, of Lot 461, both of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to all the charges that were read to them.
Particulars of one offence said, on Tuesday, September 5, at West Ruimveldt, they robbed Cordell Cort of one Blackberry cellular phone, valued $50,000.
Another charge said, the same day, being armed with a gun, they robbed Steven Randy of a laptop computer worth $80,000.
A third charge alleged that, on Saturday, October 28, in Georgetown, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Shondell Ceres and stole one TCL flat screen television and one Samsung cellular phone, together valued $165,000.
One more charge stated that, on Monday, October 21, in West Ruimveldt, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Rishawn Reid and stole one flat screen television and laptop computer, together valued $192,000.

Charged separately
Meanwhile, Payne was charged separately, with two robbery offences and he pleaded not guilty to both.
Particulars of one said, on Saturday, June 1, at East Ruimveldt, being armed with a knife, he robbed Carlotta John of one gold chain worth $140,000.
The second allegation against Payne said, on November 18 at Mandela Avenue, in the city, too, he robbed Rawle Robinson of $72,000.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said, in relation to the robbery of Ceres, she had secured her home and left for work but returned to discover that the place had been burglarised.
He said she made a report and investigations revealed that the two defendants had sold the booty in another part of the city.
The prosecutor added that the other virtual complainant was at home when the two defendants went into the home and relieved him of his property.
He said the duo is known to the victim since they all live in the same area.
He further stated that the victim John was at a shop when both accused along with another person went in, placed a knife to her throat and relieved her of the gold chain.
The prosecutor said investigations are incomplete but are expected to be completed in three weeks and the defendants were ordered to return on December 19.
