FIFTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Edward Vangronigen, of Lot 215 North Mon Repos, East Coast of Demerara was remanded to prison on Thursday on a fraudulent conversion charge. The RK Security guard appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to having, last August 16, at Republic Avenue, Mackenzie, Linden, being solely entrusted with the sum of $495,226 by Loris Mc Lean, he fraudulently converted the money, belonging to the COURTS Linden Branch, to his own use.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant is employed with RK Security Service and was given the cash to deposit at Republic Bank but failed to do so.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, for the defence, made a bail application, stating that the defendant is presently unwell and suffers from kidney stone.
But the prosecutor objected to the grant, stating that Vangronigen gave two different addresses and may pose a flight risk, since the offence was, allegedly, committed in August and he was only arrested by the police on Sunday last.
The objection was upheld and the case was transferred to Christiansburg Court for December 18.
