TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Ravi Samaroo, of Lot 363 Mon Repos, East Coast of Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday, on gun related charges.The Eldorado Mining Company employee is charged with having two rounds of .32 ammunition and a .32 revolver, without licences, at Port Kaituma, North West District, on November 18.
He pleaded not guilty to both offences before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry.
Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said, sometime prior, the owner of the firearm had lodged it at the company but discovered it missing on November 18.
The prosecutor said policemen, acting on information received, went to Samaroo’s home to investigate and found the firearm and matching rounds on the defendant’s person.
When questioned, Samaroo said that another man had given him the gun to keep.
The prosecutor, successfully, objected to Samaroo being granted pre-trial freedom, pointing out that no special reasons were advanced for the grant.
The case was then referred to Matthews Ridge Court, also in North West District, where it will be called, again, on February 3, 2014.
