Help the VYC spread a little Xmas cheer

HAVE you heard about the Volunteer Youth Corps Inc. (VYC)? This body is located at Lot ‘E’ Luckhoo Street, Durban Backlands, Georgetown, and has been in existence for about 17 years.VolunteerThis non-governmental, non-profit organization is run by Ms. Goldie Scott, and has dedicated years to improving the lives of children and youth by providing quality holistic health, and social and economic support in the community.
Ms. Scott and her volunteers work daily with more than 80 at-risk youths who have behavioural problems, and encourage them to stay in school to reach their full potential. The youths not only receive capacity building from VYC, but academic support to improve their competencies in mathematics and science at schools.
Every Saturday at the local orphanage, the organization supports children needing medical treatment overseas, and children under six years old.
Every Christmas, the VYC hosts a concert and Gift Giving Ceremony in which work is done to bring a toy to each child in and around the community. This year is no exception. The organization has set a target of 500 youth from areas South and East of Georgetown, including from Sophia, Tucville, South Ruimveldt, Lodge, and East La Penitence.
At the concert, the children would be performing carols, dances, poems and dramatic pieces, along with a few special artistes.
The VYC has already received commitment in the form of food and costumes from supportive families in the communities to help make this holiday a joyful one for these children, but is kindly asking anyone who is so I nclined to donate to a most deserving cause. The deadline for donations is Saturday, November 30, 2013.The event will be held on Saturday, December 21st, 2013 at the Lodge Community Ground (adjacent to VYC Centre).
The VYC admonishes everyone to please help ensure all of the children in the community have a special holiday this season. Donations are collected daily, and the VYC would welcome toys for children between the ages of six and 16 years old.
For more information on how you can assist, please call 227-1011, or contact Ms. Goldie Scott at goldiescottvyc@gmail.com.
