THE Scouts Association of Guyana (SAG) conducted a series of activities, over last weekend, in observance of its 104th anniversary.
A release said, this year, the organisation honoured long-serving members and those who have made sterling contributions to the growth and development of scouting in Guyana and the world.
Speaking at a ceremony held at SAG Headquarters in Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, on Saturday, Chief Scout Ramsay Ali told hundreds, gathered for the annual camp, rally and games, that their commitment and contribution to the association have played a major role in its expansion across the country.
He reminded them that scouting is not only about learning special skills and outdoor survival techniques but adapting a different mindset and way of life.
The association bestowed honour on 19 scouts for their service and contribution to scouting in Guyana and, in the case of SAG’s Chief Commissioner, Zaida Joaquin, the world.
Joaquin, recently, became a committee member on the Inter-American Scout Committee–World Scout Bureau– Inter-American Region.
Recognition and awards were also given for good, meritorious and long service as well as meritorious action.
Some 300 in the gathering took part in a rally through the streets of Georgetown on Saturday, then competed among themselves, in a series of games.
The association also hosted its yearly ‘BBQ and Lime’ where members of the public took full advantage of the tasty treats while being entertained to games.
