NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Repish Bhagwandin, of Hope, East Coast Demerara, who was driving the sand truck that killed four persons last Friday, is expected to face charges today.
At the Providence Magistrate’s Court, he is likely to be charged with causing the deaths by dangerous driving at Coverden, also on the East Bank of Demerara and a charge in relation to his licence.
He was the driver of the six-wheeler, GPP 8495, which slammed into a mini-bus while attempting to overtake another truck.
A senior police officer told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that Bhagwandin was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and is presently in custody.
He did not make a court appearance before because the pos- mortem examination on one of the deceased had not been done.
While the autopsies on the other three were previously performed, that on the fourth person was not done until yesterday.
The four persons lost their lives when several others, including a baby, were seriously injured after the truck driven by Bhagwandin ended up in the path of the mini-bus in which passengers were travelling to an interior location.
Those who died in the accident were Cosbert Felix Marc, Delroy Evans, Gloria Evans and another, as yet unidentified woman.
