Shelliza Basir-Lall, aka Shelly, was brutally gunned down and died before receiving medical attention. Her husband, Raymond Lall, a popular Essequibo businessman, sustained gunshot injuries during the drive by shooting at Mambo’s Bar in Kitty, Georgetown.
He underwent emergency surgery at a City hospital after which he took his own discharge from the hospital and flew home to be with his grieving family.
The 36-year-old businessman and gold miner who hails from Charity, said the incident has badly shaken him and left him traumatised. The distraught man said he loved his wife very much, and cannot believe he has lost her in such a tragic and cruel manner.
He said they were married for nine years.
Meanwhile, Region 2 Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud visited the parents of the deceased woman, where he expressed sympathy to Maqbool and Shamun Basir of Charity, Essequibo Coast on the tragic loss of their daughter, Shelly Basir-Lall.

Shelly’s mother, Mrs. Shamun Basir, said it is hard to believe what happened to her daughter. The grieving mother said Shelly was her best daughter, and had displayed a lot of courage and character to her other six siblings.
The mother said she had spoken to Shelly late Saturday night, and she had no idea it would be the last time she would exchange words with her third daughter. The grieving mother said Shelly came by her home last Thursday to drop off a birthday cake for her nephew, who celebrated his first year birthday that same day. The mother said the child was very attached to Shelly.
Meanwhile, the Basir family members are busy preparing for the funeral of Shelly. Reports are that the body would be buried at the Siriki cemetery in the Upper Pomeroon River. The body would be flown from Georgetown to the Essequibo Coast.
