THE dreams of many in the ‘Ancient County’ were realised on Monday, October 14, when 775 house lots at Kilcoy/Chesney were distributed at a ‘One Stop Shop’ in Albion Community Centre, also at Corentyne, Berbice.
The beneficiaries endured the mid-morning heat to seek betterment and a few of them, to whom the Guyana Chronicle spoke, expressed delight at being part of the life changing event.Kenny Greene said it is a very good initiative started by the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C).
“It is a dream which each and every person is looking forward to attain. If you look at the current price, the market value is over $3M for a common house lot but now, with the intervention and assistance of the Government, we can get one for as cheap as $90,000,” he pointed out.
He commended Minister of Housing, Mr. Irfaan Ali and the Government for what they are doing.
Nalesha Bahadur said: “I think it’s a good initiative and I am very proud to be a beneficiary. I see this ‘One Stop Shop’ as very useful, because many Guyanese don’t have their own houses and I am confident that everyone here is ready to accept and build a home of their dream. Kudos to the Government and Minister Ali.”
Earl Embrack commented: “I think it’s a good drive that will benefit a lot of people and, with the reasonable cost of the house lots, people can afford it with the assistance of the financial institutions, by way of accessing an easy and affordable loan. This is, indeed, an excellent move by the Government of Guyana.”
Marilyn Harilall remarked: “It is a good thing that the Government is doing. The only thing for me is that I will have to relocate from my community of origin to start a new life in a new area. I would be glad if house lots were given in an area that is close to Port Mourant, since I have to leave home very early in the morning to ply my trade. However, we still have to accept.”
Shree Persaud said: “This is a very good thing, because many people will have a chance to own something. The Government is doing a good job by giving people land to build a future and make life comfortable for their children.”
John Fredericks observed: “This is good what the Government is doing. For me, I would have been glad to own land that is closer to my place of employment but I am still happy about this. It’s all about adaptation and I think that, in time to come, the Kilcoy area will develop and we will be comfortable.”
