Persaud makes successful defence of Laparkan Holdings title

ROBIN Persaud made a successful of his Laparkan Holdings Ltd title yesterday when national cycle coach Hassan Mohammed staged the 9th Annual Laparkan Holdings Limited sponsored 11-race cycle programme in the National Park.
Persaud returned a time of one hour 18 minutes 16.70 seconds in winning the feature event, from Alonzo Greaves, Godfrey Pollydore, Junior Niles, Paul Cho-Wee-Nam and Raymond Newton respectively.
He (Persaud) also won one of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs, while Pollydore won three, Newton two and Greaves and Choo-Wee-Nam one each.
Persaud made his move after the completion of the 11th lap after Newton and Niles had broken away from a tightly grouped pack, while Choo-Wee-Nam, Greaves and Pollydore Joined the leaders after the 12th lap and was subsequently joined by Junior Niles.
With 350 metres remaining to the finish, Persaud jumped the others and opened a three-length lead which he maintained to the end.
Meanwhile, Greaves who was placed second coming around the home turn went wide, causing Pollydore to go wide, avoiding a collision with a tree and he (Pollydore) came off the pace to avoid a collision, as Greaves went on to place second and Pollydore third.
In other results, Romelo Crawford won the BMX boys and girls 12-14 years old three-lap race ahead of Alfie Sonaram and Jamal John respectively.
Junior Niles returned a time of 13 minutes 27 seconds in winning the five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age.
Niles clocked 11 minutes 49.69 seconds in winning the event last year.
Kennard Lovell placed second and Turan Harris third.
Linden Blackman won the Veterans 50 and over five-lap race ahead of Kenneth Meji and Courtney Hackett respectively, while Maurice won the five-lap race for over-60 veterans.
Hamza Eastman won the 10-lap race for juveniles ahead of Andre Geer and Andre Abdool respectively.
Richard Charles was the winner of the five-lap race for mountain bikers. Second was Kester Croal.
Sherwin Sampson won the BMX boys 6-9 years three-lap race ahead of Tyan Nunes and Ale3xanderr4 Leung respectively.
Deeraj Garbarran, Kamuel Mosses and Shermon Dass placed first, second and respectively in the BMX boys 9-12 years three-lap race.
