A police source confirmed last night that the shooting did occur, but did not offer any other comment. Asked to confirm the incident, he would only say that he could not speak, since he was conducting an investigation.
As word of the shooting spread, persons with relatives in other parts of the country began making desperate efforts to contact their loved ones on the island. One man who spoke with this publication said he was not at the wedding house, but received word of what had transpired. He said that although the incident did not occur in close or reasonable proximity to his home, he was indoors and his house was shut tight.
Last evening, police from Charity travelled to the area and launched a desperate search for the gunmen, since it was widely believed that they were from, and familiar with, the area.
One woman opined that had the men not originated from the area or known persons at the wedding, they might likely have invaded the home unmasked.
The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
