Alonzo Greaves yesterday sprinted away with top honours in the National Sports Commission sponsored 37th annual National Parks Cycle Feature event , clocking a time of One Hour 17 minutes 12.79 seconds in the process. He also won two of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs in the 35-lap event.Greaves made his intention known from the first lap when he opened a small lead on the field of 33 starters and though he only led the field for two laps before being pulled into the chasing pack,

he stayed with a leading bunch of four others until the fourth lap when he was joined by Robin Persaud, Raynauth Jeffrey and Shakile Agard.

The foursome ruled the roost until the 17th lap as the closing bunch which comprised seven cyclists closed in on them and finally made connection during the course of the 18th lap by which time Persaud suffered a puncture and exited the race.
On connecting, the leading bunch of nine cyclists led until there were 10 laps remaining of the 35-lap race and Jeffrey and Greaves made a break and opened an approximately 30-metre lead on the others, a lead that they maintained until the end.
Alex Mendes was a further 50 metres in third, but he was eventually caught up with the remainder of the field.
However, Greaves and Jeffrey battled it out fiercely to the end which saw Greaves jumping Jeffrey about 150 metres from the finish and held on to win by three bicycle lengths.
