Man accused of $2.1M house break-in is a frequent visitor to the home – court told

A thirty-year-old man of 2057 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer a charge of break and enter, allegedly carried out at a home where he has been a frequent visitor.

Frankie Slow was not required to plead to the indictable charge accusing him between July 22 and July 23 at Georgetown, of breaking and entering the dwelling house of Roxroy Jeffers of 382 Ganges Street, Prashad Nagar, Greater Georgetown. He allegedly stole three flat screen television sets, one complete surround system, one Sony stereo set, one pair of gents shoes, a quantity of gents clothing, 30 bottles of alcohol and one complete Nintendo Wii game system, a total value of $2,110,000.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, told the court that the accused is known to the virtual complainant (VC) for a number of years and frequently visits the VC’s home. Jeffers went out of the country leaving his relative Shellon St. John in charge of the home.
On the day in question at around 19:45 hrs, St. John secured the house by the means provided with everything intact and went out. The accused allegedly used a crow bar and prised out the back door and removed the articles stated in the charge. An investigation was carried out subsequently and the accused was arrested and charged.
Corporal Blackman objected to the pretrial liberty of the accused, citing the grounds that he gave the court conflicting addresses which indicated that he has no fixed place of abode, as well as the nature of the offence and the penalty it attracts.
Magistrate McGusty asked the defendant, “Sir, you are to be granted bail how much do think you will get?”
He replied, “Meh worship $100,000.”
Magistrate McGusty responded, “Oh my, and who will pay this?”
Slow answered that his father would and he then told the court that he was working with the VC but he was underpaid.
However, bail was refused and the case will be called again on September 4.
