TWENTY-FOUR-year-old Coldon Daley of Lot 23 D Crocket Street East La Penitence, Georgetown was sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment by Magistrate Ann McLennan on a simple larceny charge.
After the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied, the accused pleaded guilty with explanation to the offence. Particulars state that between July 22 and 23, at Albouystown, Georgetown, he stole from Trevor Ford 1 Motorola cellular phone, 3 jerseys, a pair of jeans, 1 cap, 1 pair of sneakers and $75,000. in cash to a total value of 160,000.
The accused told the court that he is a conductor and fisherman by profession, and that he and his brother, the virtual complainant (VC), were travelling to Suriname together, but the VC proposed that they both take a walk by his girlfriend. After he appeared at the immigration, he was told that he is wanted at the Alberttown Police Station for stealing.
The prosecutor indicated that the VC did not recover the stolen articles, and pointed out that the accused still has the cellular phone and is wearing the sneakers in court.
Before handing down the sentence, Magistrate McLennan took into consideration Daley’s plea and the prevalence of the offence.
