ALJED Adonis, 33, a miner of Lot 941 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, made a court appearance with crotches Tuesday, in answer a robbery charge.
Beads of perspiration rolled down his face as the charge was read to him, alleging that, on Monday, July 15, at a Chinese restaurant in Agricola Public Road, Greater Georgetown, being armed with a gun, he robbed Laikram Chintaman of one gold chain valued $250,000. Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, objected to bail, citing the penalty attached to the offence, the weapon allegedly used, the quantum involved and the likelihood that the defendant may not return for his trial.
However, after pre-trial liberty was refused until July 30 and a summons was issued for the absent virtual complainant, attorney-at-law Mr. Melville Duke indicated that Chintaman does not wish to offer any evidence in the case as he was compensated.
In light of sworn testimony given by Chintaman, the prosecution did not proceed and the case against Adonis was dismissed.
