PYARG Programme takes IT training to Tapakuma

MINISTER of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy told several young people, at an Information Technology (IT) workshop on Monday that Government policy is for both young and old to have e-mail addresses.
Speaking in the Theresa Housing Scheme, at Tapakuma on Essequibo Coast, he said they must know to use the computer. Ramsammy said he is very proud to see young people of the President Youth Award: Republic of Guyana (PYARG) programme conducting the training programme and its execution in the remote village has shown how far the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) Government has come to train residents in the hinterland and across the country to use computers.
Talking about the installation of the Fibre Optic Cable from Brazil to boost IT countrywide, the minister said government is spending US$30M on the project, so that all residents can benefit from cheap Internet services.

He said construction work has started on several towers along Essequibo Coast to facilitate the rapid flow of information that is relevant to development.
Ramsammy said Government’s vision is to develop the IT industry because it can generate wealth for the people of Guyana and the country cannot be left back.
Nineteen youths of Tapakuma are, currently, undergoing IT training in the village community centre.
Toshoa of the village, Ms. Doreen Jackobis said she is very thankful to the PYARG programme for sending eight skilled young people to conduct the course and the group of trainers, led by Ms. Zameena Rasheed, is doing a brilliant job.
