CABINET Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon said approval has been granted for the current facility housing the National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) on Hadfield Street, Lodge to be demolished and replaced by an 18,000 square foot, three-storey concrete structure intended to house government and state telecoms broadcasting entities. The NFMU will, from July 29 to August 2, be hosting a visiting International Telecommunications Union (ITU) expert who would assist Guyana to develop the roadmap in transitioning from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting.
The national roadmap team and representatives of the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors in Guyana would be meeting the ITU expert to examine policies and guidelines, and do some primary elaboration of details that would likely be applicable in the Guyana market as it transitions from the current analogue system to the digital system by the year 2015.
