Courts Guyana Inc donates $$$ to UG Reading is Fun programme

COURTS Guyana Inc has donated $570,000 in sponsorship to the University of Guyana’s ninth “Reading is Fun” programme, which is designed to improve the reading and educational foundation of young children from less fortunate environs. The Courts’ sponsorship would assist to provide books, meals, stationery and other items needed by children going back to school; and to facilitate all other expenses incurred by the programme over the three weeks of its duration, from July 30 to August 16.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana (UG), Mr. Phillip Da Silva, and UG Librarian, Ms Gwyneth George were presented with the cheque yesterday at the Courts Main Street location, where Da Silva said this programme has been ongoing for a number of years, and allows nearly 100 students to participate.

In all of its years of existence, he said, the programme got very much easier when Courts came on board with its sponsorship.

Managing Director of Courts, Mr. Clyde de Haas, declared it an honour and pleasure for the furniture giant to participate in the programme, as the work is recognised as good and needs full support.
