APNU claims workers being forced to join protest

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) said it has been reliably informed that workers from the Mahaica-Berbice area (Region 5) are being “bullied and coerced” into travelling to Georgetown today, to picket in front of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and Parliament Buildings. APNU, in a statement, claimed that several workers from the region have called the Office of the Leader of the Opposition to complain that they are being forced to travel to Georgetown to protest. They said they were told that they have to go and protest against the Opposition because “they voted against the Hydro”.
APNU said it wants the Peoples Progressive Party / Civic (PPPC) to know that “such tactics will not bend us in what we are doing”.
“Our partnership remains committed to representing and working in the best interest of the people of Guyana and we will not fail them,” the APNU posited.
When contacted for a comment, a source in the PPP rubbished the allegations by the APNU, saying it is baseless and not worth reacting to. Added to this is the fact that today’s sitting of the National Assembly has been postponed.
