After elimination process… : Essequibo Star Competition discovers new singers

A NEW singing personality has been discovered among others, with Ms. Yonel Fraser copping the first prize in the Essequibo Star Competition Finals.
It happened last Friday at Sky Bar on the fifth floor of the Alfro Alphonso shopping complex, Charity, Essequibo Coast. Coordinator of the show was Mr. Lennox Pitt, of Maria’s Lodge, and the contest, staged for the first time in Essequibo, attracted a wide cross-section of young people.
He said 20 talented individuals entered and, at the first audition on June 5, 15 went through to the quarter finals.
Pitt said the rivalry was very competitive and, at the semi-finals, five more contestants were eliminated.
Then, at the finals, ten singers hotly competed for the three top places and Fraser emerged as the Essequibo Star in the number one position while Javanua Roberts was second and Curtly Lake third.
Fraser received a cash prize of $80,000 and a trophy; Roberts got $40,000 and a trophy and Lake was given $20,000 and a trophy.
The Essequibo Star Competition was supported by Universal Pharmacy, Pitt’s Nursery School, David Shurland of Adventure, HJ TV(Georgetown), RCA TV (Charity) and RS Designs and Gift Shop.
Pitt said Essequibians responded very positively to the competition and are looking forward to next year’s.
