Two in assault case bonded pending outcome

QUASON Robert (no address given) appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Sunday, July 7, at Lot 22 Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Candacy Thompson.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the Court that the virtual complainant had been on her way home around 08:40hrs when the defendant drove up in a car and asked her to enter.
After she refused, he grabbed and slapped her, the prosecutor said.
But the defendant claimed the woman chucked him and spat in his face.
Robert was released on his own recognisance and both parties were bonded to keep the peace pending the outcome of the case, which will be called again, on July 23.
