NATI crowned Region 6 Digicel Football Champions

THE New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) overcame windy conditions to edge the New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) 2-1 in a roller-coaster encounter to lift the Region 6 title at the Skeldon ground last Sunday. NAMS drew first blood in the 33rd minute when Akeem Bollers took a corner kick and Shakeel Grant netted. However, it was tough luck onwards for the secondary school lads who were marked by defenders during the remainder of the encounter.
Shermon Richards booted an equaliser past the NAMS custodian Leon Loo in the 41st minute and it was deadlock 1-1 at lemon time.
It was a mad rush of adrenalin in the second half from both sides to take the lead, which eventually came in the 63rd minute when NATI skipper Jarrel Walters netted.
As the encounter progressed with NATI in the lead, NAMS striker Jamal Butts found himself being marked by two defenders and his teammates failed to capitalise otherwise.
When the final whistle blew, it was the NATI lads and their vocal supporters who were celebrating with flair as a dejected NAMS outfit left the field as Region 6 runners-up.
NATI will clash with St John’s College of Georgetown this weekend in a quarter-final encounter of the championships. (Michael Khan)
