THE U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) team, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Wismar Mosque, and the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana, conducted a medical outreach in Wismar, Linden on June 22, 2013.

During the one-day medical outreach, doctors and nurses were able to provide essential medical services and treatment to over 200 residents of Linden in specialty areas such as gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, and general medicine.
A statement from the U.S. embassy said the HAP Team also donated pharmaceuticals to the Linden Regional Hospital Complex. This donation provides support to the hospital for follow-up patient visits and to support the hospital’s efforts to provide essential medical services to the residents of Linden. The medical outreach was supported by medical volunteer staff from the Tiwari Pharmacy, West Coast Demerara; Doobay Medical Centre, East Coast Demerara; St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Georgetown, and the Linden Regional Hospital.
Medical outreach through the Humanitarian Assistance Program represents a core component of the U.S embassy’s continuing commitment to work with the Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Health to support enhanced public health for the people of Guyana.
The recent medical outreach and donation is the latest in a series of activities undertaken by the U.S. embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program. HAP is an initiative carried out through the U.S. embassy to assist Guyana’s communities in the areas of social, economic, and medical development. HAP works to bring together multiple local and international civic organisations to achieve common goals.
