9mm warhead retrieved from head of Mahaica man shot dead in robbery – three suspects being questioned

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, yesterday, said that police had retrieved a 9mm warhead from the head of homicide victim, Omadat Persaud “Vicky”, 27, of Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, during a post- mortem examination.

The Deputy Commissioner, Law Enforcement, added that a warhead and a spent shell were also recovered from the crime scene and three suspects are being questioned and they remain in police custody assisting with investigations.
Persaud was shot and killed by gunmen on Monday night when they invaded his home and robbed his relatives at gunpoint.
Police reported that at about 20:30 hrs on July 8, 2013, Yogendra Naipaul, 38, his wife Omadai Naipaul, 38, and their son and daughter were outside of the home when they were confronted by the armed men.
The perpetrators took them into the building where they also held up Omadat Persaud,  who was shot to his head in the process.
The armed men took away a quantity of jewellery and a sum of US currency and escaped.

SEAWALL MURDER
Meanwhile, in another homicide, Crime Chief Persaud yesterday said that the suspect, who was in police custody pending a probe into the seawall murder of mason Tyrone Boodhoo on July 7, 2013, was released since his alibi was checked out.
Police said at about 21:25 hrs on July 7, 2013, Tyrone Boodhoo, 32, of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, and a female friend, Martha Mohamed, 23, were at the seawall in the vicinity of Vryheid’s Lust, also on the East Coast Demerara, when they were confronted by two men who ordered them to lie on the ground.
At this stage, Boodhoo attempted to escape and was shot by one of the men. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The perpetrators took away a cell phone from Mohamed and escaped.
Following a post-mortem on Boodhoo’s body  by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, the cause of death was given as perforation of the lungs and liver due to gunshot injuries.
