Two int’l firms at Building Expo want to open factories here

AMONG the firms from the international community that were present at Building Expo recently, two have indicated their intention of opening factories in Guyana to produce building/construction units and sub-units.

This was disclosed yesterday by Secretary to the Cabinet Dr. Roger Luncheon at his usual post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President, in Georgetown.
Meanwhile, he said that according to preliminary reviews Housing Minister Irfaan Ali was highly commended by Cabinet for the excellently planned and executed expo.
In a report to Cabinet, Dr. Luncheon said Ali highlighted the overwhelming evidence of success and pointed out that there were over 1,200 home owners who qualified for loans, and about 4,000 registrants for the moderate to low income house lots.
Dr. Luncheon said particular attention was paid to Silica City that is intended to be established along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
“Those plans were well received, the feedback was extremely positive and a report that consolidated that feedback would now be prepared and used for public consultations on the establishment of Silica City,” he said.
The expo was held at the Guyana National Stadium, East Bank Demerara, under the theme ‘Consolidating Partnerships for Sustainable Development’.
