DRUG defendant Onica Griffith, who pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Monday, was remanded to prison.
She denied having three and a half grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The 35-year-old defendant told the Court she was cycling along Republic Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice, when she saw something beside her foot in the grass and a policeman asked whether it belonged to her.
She claimed that, after she responded in the negative, ownership of the narcotic was forced on her.
However, Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, prosecuting, said ranks on mobile patrol along Stanleytown, Greater New Amsterdam, saw the defendant walking and constantly looking backwards.
As a result, she was stopped and searched and, in her right hand was found a transparent plastic bag containing a creamy, rock-like substance.
The defendant was arrested and taken to Central Police Station, where the narcotic was weighed in her presence, the Court heard, prior to the case being postponed to July 29.
