Man charged with Woodlands Hospital robbery remanded

A MAN has been charged with the Monday, July 1, armed robbery committed at Woodlands Hospital, in Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

Michael Lewis, 38, driver of motorcar PMM 9150 appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said he, together with another, robbed the hospital of $1.1M.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the defendant, citing the nature of the crime and that a dangerous weapon was used.
Lewis was remanded to prison until July 19, despite the submission, by attorney-at-law, Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, for the defence, that the former was apprehended on the city seawall with nothing on his possession to implicate him in the heist.
