MAJOR DRUG BUST – Bags of ganja found in shipment of cars from Jamaica

DRUG Enforcement Officers attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday unearthed a large quantity of marijuana that was reportedly stashed inside a container at the John Fernandes Container terminal on Mandela Avenue (Back Road), Georgetown.

altAccording to sources close to the investigation, as well as online media reports, the consignment of marijuana was packed in several bags and was found among a shipment of cars which came into the country from Japan via Jamaica.
The shocking drug bust was reportedly made around 10:00 hrs yesterday and involve more than 2000 pounds of marijuana.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the container came into the country on June 27 on board the vessel, MV Vega Sachsen and was expected to leave this weekend. It is suspected that the drugs were placed in the container while the vessel was in Jamaica since the seal on the container was said to be tampered with.
Anti-narcotics officials are investigating this latest bust while the importer of the container and broker are being questioned.
