Regional Under-17 tourney… Maniram’s unbeaten 78 leads T&T to victory

SHAW PARK, Tobago (CMC) – Jerron Maniram slammed an unbeaten 78 to lead Trinidad and Tobago to a tense two-wicket win over Leeward Islands in their opening match of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Tobago House of Assembly Regional Under-17 tournament on Monday.

The Trinidadians stumbled in their run chase after the Leewards, who won the toss and elected to bat, were bowled out for 183 in 50 overs
However Maniram kept T&T in the hunt for the win by helping them recover from 61 for four to reach 184 for eight off 48.3 overs.
Maniram’s knock included seven fours and two sixes as he emerged the key batsman in a tight finish that allowed T&T to secure victory with two wickets in hand and 9 balls remaining.
Earlier, the Leewards got off to a bad start, losing opener Tyrone Williams third ball of the innings.
But Ross Powell and Saeed Williams came together in an 82-run, second-wicket stand to repair the damage.
Powell scored 55 and Williams 34.
Kasey Carter kept the innings going with an aggressive knock of 55 that contained three fours and a six and shared in a 41-run partnership with Powell.
But the innings fell away when both batsmen departed on 55 and none of the seven remaining batsmen got into double figures.
Bryan Boodram led T&T’s bowling attack by taking three wickets for 31 runs while captain Varendra Jagroop and Carl Vialva took two wickets each.
