Vendor on assault charge after dispute about loading minibus

A 47-seven-year-old vendor was placed on $20,000 surety bond when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell on Thursday, June 27, to answer an assault charge.

Mark Roberts of Lot 696 Caneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the offence that said on June 24 at Hadfield Street Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Clinton John.
According to the defendant, on that day he and the virtual complainant (VC) had a misunderstanding about loading passengers into a minibus. He added that John picked up a stick and dealt him a lash to his hand but he did not retaliate as  the VC alleged.
The matter will be called again in court on  July 10.
