St Therese’s Primary lift female football title

THE St Therese’s Primary School of New Amsterdam, played technical football, yesterday, to lift the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU ) – N/A title in the inter-primary female football competition at the Scott’s school ground.

The tournament was played on a round-robin basis with duration of 15 minutes per match, involving four schools.
The All Saints Primary, Overwinning Primary, New Amsterdam Primary and St Therese’s Primary participated in the sweltering afternoon heat on a heavy outfield.
In Game 1, St Therese’s defeated Overwinning 2-0, with Trishel Joseph netting twice. In Game 2, All Saints edged N/A Primary 1-0, Alicia Alexander scored for the winners.
In Game 3, Overwinning outplayed a tired All Saints outfit 1-0, Denelle Williams netted for Overwinning. In Game 4, N/A Primary continued their winning ways by edging St Therese’s 1-0, Theresa Lucius found the back of the net for the winners. In Game 5, Overwinning drew with N/A Primary 0-0 and in Game 6, St Therese’s drew 0-0 with All Saints.
Due to a tie at the completion of the round -obin tourney, All Saints’ and N/A Primary battled for second position via penalty shootout, with the latter winning 1-0.
At the conclusion of the competition, trophies and medals were presented to the winners while the 2nd- and 3rd-placed teams copped medals.
There were also individual prizes; Destiny Lewis of N/A Primary was adjudged Most Valuable Player, Asha Surajnauth of Overwinning was adjudged Most Promising Player, Melinda Williams of N/A Primary was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and Trishel Joseph of St Therese’s copped the trophy for scoring the Most Goals (2).
The competition was organised by Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club in collaboration with the GTU-N/A Branch and was sanctioned by the Region Six Department of Education. The inter-primary male football competition will be played tomorrow at the same venue.
