Dreadlocked ‘Fiah Lion’ jailed for trafficking marijuana

DREADLOCKED Darrel Dorsette also known as ‘Fiah Lion’,  of Lot 70 Number 53 Village, Corentyne, was sentenced to three years imprisonment yesterday for drug trafficking.

Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, inflicted the custodial penalty after finding him guilty at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice.
In addition to the jail term, the married father of one was fined $148,500, representing three times the value of the 165 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) with which he was found.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff led evidence from two witnesses that that the convict was in possession of portions of the illegal plant, on February 28 last, at Main and Pilot Streets, New Amsterdam.
Defence Counsel Ramesh Rajkumar had submitted that Dorsette was driving a vehicle which was not his own but a search of it revealed a tool box containing  leaves, seeds and stems of the hemp plant.
The lawyer said the convict is a farmer who supplies markets in Demerara with vegetables.
